Bikepacking 2024 Ride #1 – Grant’s Ranch Startin’ It Up!

GRANT’S RANCH
Location:
Our first outing will take us up the first slope of Mt. Hamilton into Joseph D. Grant County Park, a sprawling 10,000 acre park nestled in the foothills of San Jose.
Route:
The route will take us out toward the eastern foothills, with a small scenic cut through Alum Rock Park to avoid heavily trafficked roads. The climb up Mt. Hamilton Road is not particularly steep, but it is about 8 miles of consistent climbing. After hitting the summit of the first set of foothills, we’ll be treated with a lovely sweeping decent into the entrance to Grants Ranch. Once we get up to the camp site we will set up camp, maybe build a fire and have a victory beverage. If time allows and people are interested, we could do a bonus lap up the the top of Dutch Flat Trail and watch the sunset. After that, we’ll head back down to camp and tell tales of the days of yore around the campfire.
Notes/Suggestions:
As this will be the end of April it is possible that the evening and morning will be cold, bring a nice jacket and some cozy PJs.
